Hello, my name is Mayara Bittencourt, a 34-year-old Brazilian. Allow me to share a bit about the story behind Foreign General Cleaning and the reason for its name. I lived in Brazil from the 1990s until 2017. In 2012, I welcomed my first child, followed by my second child in 2016. From then on, my mindset shifted, and all I wanted was to provide better opportunities and a higher quality of life for them. I decided to come to the United States and start a new life for them.
Upon arriving here, I immediately connected with the cleaning work. Although it can be tough at times, I loved the experience of encountering new cultures, customs, and languages. California, as you may know, is the most diverse state in the U.S., and this diversity fascinated me. One of my lifelong dreams has been to explore the world, and surprisingly, I am doing so within the realm of cleaning. Stepping into a house feels like entering a new country—a new décor, a new language. Is there a more straightforward way to travel the world than this and still be rewarded for it?
Yet, what truly makes being a cleaner in California extraordinary isn’t just the multicultural experience but the genuine connections we forge with our clients. Working in the same house for years, we develop a bond that often evolves into friendship or even family.
